Preamps + Unison plugins are worth it

by mixbus · Apr 2026 · ✓ Verified purchase

Conversion is genuinely class-leading and latency is a non-issue. The Unison preamps change the tone of what you're tracking — monitoring an 1176 or a Neve emulation in real time while you record is the whole point.

Thunderbolt-only is the catch — check your ports. The real cost is the UAD plugin ecosystem (most are paid add-ons), and the console software has a small learning curve. Worth it if you'll live inside that ecosystem.

Pros

  • +Class-leading conversion (129 dB)
  • +Real-time Unison preamp modeling
  • +Near-zero latency, solid build

Cons

  • Thunderbolt only
  • Best plugins are paid extras

Can confirm the bundle is the real value. The 1176 and pre models are everywhere in my sessions now.
