Focusrite Scarlett Solo (4th Gen)
The safe first interface for vocals + one instrument
by newtothis · Mar 2026 · ✓ Verified purchase
For a one-mic, one-instrument home setup this is still the default recommendation. The 4th-gen preamp is clean with plenty of headroom, and the new Air mode (Presence + Harmonic Drive) adds a genuinely useful sheen on vocals and acoustic guitar.
Auto Gain and Clip Safe take the guesswork out of setting levels — great for beginners — and it's bus-powered over USB-C with a solid metal build. The catch is what you'd expect at this size: just one mic and one instrument input, and RCA line outs (you may need adapters for some monitors).

Air mode on an acoustic is subtle but lovely. Exactly what a starter rig needs.

Bought one for a friend starting out — Auto Gain alone makes it worth it for a first interface.
